Imagine having to leave your home in the dead of night, taking nothing but your children and the clothes on your back. For many women fleeing domestic abuse, this is their reality.
At eve, we see, every day, how courageous women and vulnerable children make the life-altering decision to escape abuse. However, escape is just the beginning. Starting over takes more than bravery – it takes support, vital resources, and a community that cares. That’s where your donations come in.
But when times are tough and the cost of living is high, we understand the importance of knowing where your money is going. More notably, the positive impact it is having. This article explains exactly how eve optimise your generous donations, whether that’s money, food, gifts or time, to help rebuild another person’s world.
It’s More Than Just Money
Every pound you donate goes directly towards helping women and their families transform their lives. No matter the size of your donation, whether £1 or £100, you are playing a vital role in someone’s journey to safety and healing. Furthermore, your time and attention towards our cause help increase the awareness of domestic abuse. Hopefully, this will inspire others to join our mission or reach someone who desperately needs us.
Here’s How Your Support Helps
The monetary gifts from fundraising, commercial partnerships, or one-off donations are allocated to our specialist services or to providing essential everyday items to our service users. For example:
- £15 will bring comfort to a child who has left everything behind. With new books, colouring and craft activities, clean pyjamas, and a cuddly teddy bear, you’re giving them a sense of normalcy in a world that suddenly feels unfamiliar. £15 may be a cinema outing for you. But for the children in our refuges, it shows that someone cares.
- £25 provides a lifeline for a woman still living in her own home but in need of urgent support. A telephone session with one of our expert advisors can empower her with the tools, confidence, and guidance to build a future free from abuse. £25 could treat you to a meal out with friends. For the woman who feels cut off from society, this guarantees her a listening, compassionate ear.
- £40 helps a woman settle into emergency accommodation with dignity. With the basics like electricity, food essentials, a kettle, and cutlery, she can begin to regain control over her life and care for herself again. £40 could buy a new set of luxury bedding. For a woman who has nothing to her name, this money can help set up her home.
- £65 ensures one night of safe refuge for a mother and her two children. Here, our specialist Support Workers provide round-the-clock care, helping them take the first steps toward healing. £65 may provide a night’s escape in a hotel for you. It could also allow a woman and child to finally have a safe and peaceful night’s sleep.
- £150 gives the gift of therapy to a mother and child working to recover together. Professional support helps them process trauma, rebuild trust, and start healing as a family. £150 could help upgrade your TV or laptop. But it could also help others feel accepted and involved in your community.
Along with the above packages, donations also go towards funding essential resources and training for our staff and service users, including:
- Space for service user sessions
- Furnishing refuges
- Therapy sessions
- Creche facilities
- External training with companies
- Emergency vehicles
Your Time and Services Have a Huge Impact, Too
One of the most significant milestones of our service users’ recovery is the encouragement and inclusion of their community. Domestic abuse instils a belief of self-doubt and self-criticism, slowly isolating victims from their friends, family and day-to-day life.
Volunteers who offer their time to talk, listen, or create arrival packs for the women and children play a considerable part in reestablishing personal connections. Furthermore, individuals who share their skills, such as CV writing, teaching, cooking, or budgeting, help reignite the confidence and self-belief that motivates survivors to achieve the life they deserve. We cannot put a price on such donations.
Why We Need You
Demand for our services continues to rise, and the cost of providing comprehensive, compassionate aid adds up quickly. We rely on the generosity of donors to keep our doors open and our helplines answered.
Fundraising is more than an act of giving – it’s a declaration of solidarity. It tells every woman and child fleeing abuse that they are not alone. It tells them that their lives matter. Whether you host a fundraiser, make a monthly gift, or share our mission with others, you are part of a powerful movement for change. Together, we can help survivors not just escape but rebuild and thrive.
