Every year, 8th March invites us all to reflect on societal progress, confront inequality, and recommit to building a safer, fairer world for women and girls.
2026’s theme for International Women’s Day is ‘Give to Gain’. It’s a reminder of something quite powerful: when we invest in the safety, well-being, and equality of women, it benefits everyone. From wealthier workplaces and united communities to healthier relationships and safer environments, it creates a better future for generations to come. Although 8th March highlights this, we push for this possibility every day at eve.
Why Celebrating IWD and Supporting Women Benefits Us All
Yes, today is focused on women and girls, but gender-based violence does not exist in isolation. It affects families, friendships, workplaces, public services, and entire communities. Domestic abuse can lead to long-term physical and mental health challenges. This then extends to reduced productivity at work, increased staff absences, a cost to businesses, and emotional harm to everyone within the periphery of domestic abuse.
When individuals and organisations choose to honour days like IWD and support charities like eve, they are not only standing up for women’s rights and safety, but they are also actively contributing to:
- Safer, more informed workplaces
- Stronger safeguarding for everyone
- Improved staff confidence and well-being
- Positive cultures and community impact
Give Your Team the Power of Knowledge
As the saying goes, knowledge is power.
At eve, we fully believe that this applies to our service users, supporters, and even perpetrators of abuse. It’s why our experts have developed a range of specialist training courses to help everyone understand and address domestic abuse.
Our Stay Free training programme, in particular, has been designed to support individuals who work with vulnerable people across education, healthcare, housing, social care, and community sectors. It equips participants with valuable insights, confidence and tools to recognise and safely manage situations around domestic abuse.
Through our Stay Free Programme, participants gain:
- A clear understanding of domestic abuse and coercive control
- The ability to spot early warning signs
- Confidence in having difficult but vital conversations
- Knowledge of referral pathways and support
- A stronger safeguarding and trauma-informed approach
- Up-to-date policies and procedures
- Better-trained teams and improved duty of care

A Brief History of International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day began in the early 1900s and has established strong roots within women’s activism and equal rights. Initially, women were fighting for basic rights, including fair pay, safer working conditions, and the right to vote – some of which we are still pushing for in parts of the world, even a hundred years later.
Although there have been protests for women’s rights throughout history, the first International Women’s Day was officially recognised in the United States in 1909. Since then, International Women’s Day has been observed in many countries, and this year will be no different.
This International Women’s Day, Choose to Give to Gain
Ending gender-based violence is not a woman’s issue; it’s a societal responsibility. When we give our time, resources, skills or support, we gain safer environments, brighter communities, and stronger relationships. Furthermore, we gain a future where women, children, and everyone can truly thrive.
This International Women’s Day, we invite you to stand with eve. Give support. Gain positivity. Be a part of the change.
