Domestic abuse remains a prominent story in our society, with countless individuals, particularly women and children, experiencing physical, verbal, emotional, and psychological harm every year.

In the UK alone, 1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence within their lifetime. For the last 40 years, eve has been committed to providing life-saving support to survivors of domestic abuse, helping them rebuild their lives with dignity, safety, and hope.

However, none of this is possible without the vital support of our donors and volunteers. Fundraising is critical in maintaining our services and expanding our reach to help more people.

In this blog, we’ll explore the importance of fundraising, share how donations directly impact the lives of our service users and offer inspiring ideas for your next fundraising event to support eve.

There are many ways you can support eve’s work through fundraising, from organising community events to maximising your social media platforms for virtual campaigns. Below are some fun and engaging fundraising ideas to get you started:

1. Plan a Virtual or In-Person Charity Walk/Run

Organise a 5 or 10km walk or run to raise awareness about domestic abuse. Participants can seek sponsorships from family, friends, and coworkers, with all proceeds going directly to Eve. You can even offer a virtual option for those unable to attend in person, allowing people from all over to join.

Dave is a beloved supporter of eve; already completing two fundraisers that include walking 200 miles within a month for eve. Creating an ‘Every Step for Eve’ campaign, he promotes Eve’s name and mission wherever he walks, sparking a conversation about our work. 2. Sponsor a Safe Night Campaign

Highlight the cost of providing one night of safe shelter for a survivor in a refuge. Invite donors to sponsor a night (or more) of safety for women and children across Northampton. You can create a donation page and social media campaign that tracks how many “safe nights” have been sponsored, offering a tangible connection between donations and impact.

3. Run an Auction or Raffle

Raffles are a fun and easy way to raise funds. Asking communities or businesses to donate products, vouchers, skills, or homemade items as prizes not only promotes them but also increases awareness for Eve. Raffle tickets can be sold widely, raising as much money as possible.

Whether you hire a room or host an online quiz, charge people a fee to enter the quiz. This will be put towards the winnings, with 50% going to the winning team and 50% going to eve. Alternatively, you could ask a local business to donate a prize so all quiz entry fees can go straight to eve.

5. Open Mic Night

Music, dance and comedy can be a powerful tool for healing and raising awareness. Partner with local musicians, poets, or artists to organise a benefit concert or open mic night. Ticket sales and donations can go directly to supporting eve’s services. You can also include service user stories between performances to foster a greater understanding of domestic abuse issues and the work eve does.

6. Care Package Sponsorship

Offer donors the chance to sponsor a care package for survivors who arrive at eve’s refuge. Care packages can include essential toiletries, clothing, children’s supplies, or comfort items like blankets and books. Donors can even include messages of support, helping women and children feel seen and cared for during a difficult, lonely and emotional time.

7. Corporate Matching Campaign

Matching campaigns are a quick and impressive way to instantly increase your fundraising efforts. By partnering with the place you work or other local businesses for a corporate matching campaign, owners match the donations made by fundraisers. Not only does this double the impact of individual contributions, but it also spreads awareness within workplaces about domestic abuse and how people can get involved.

8. Host a Bake Sale

If you’re a master at millionaire shortbread or a boss at baking fudge brownies, now’s your time to shine! A bake sale is a sweet way to fundraise for eve with a lunchtime or all-day event at your local school, offices or shopping centres. You could also incorporate the colour purple into your icing and decorations – the official colour for eve and domestic abuse awareness.

9. Online Donation Drive

Utilise your social media platforms to launch an online donation drive. Share eve’s mission and stories of how your followers’ support can help save lives. Encourage your friends and family to donate, as well as ask them to share and repost donation links to reach wider audiences.

10. Charity Dinner or Gala

Go big with your fundraising and host an entire evening dedicated to raising as much money and awareness as possible. Host a charity dinner or gala where attendees pay for tickets, and all proceeds go towards eve’s services. You can include music, entertainment, a silent auction, speeches from advocates, and a short educational presentation to raise awareness about domestic abuse.
